Michigan Bluff
Michigan Bluff is a key checkpoint for both
events. The whole town (such as it is) becomes an Aid Station on the day of the
Run.
As of 2007, the Ride no longer uses downtown
Michigan Bluff for its Vet Check. It now uses a location called Chicken Hawk,
located about a mile down trail, where the course makes a sharp turn to the
west and departs the graded roadway. Chicken Hawk is best reached by taking the
graded road to the right at the top of the ridge, about 100yds beyond the last
hairpin turn on the way toward Michigan Bluff.
The town is accessible by a paved road that
branches off to the south (Right) from the Foresthill Divide Road, a few miles
north of Foresthill. The road makes several sharp turns and is quite steep in
places. Parking in Michigan Bluff is very limited. Carpooling is suggested.
Runner progress is also reported to NCS via
an Internet connection at this location.
Michigan Bluff and Chicken Hawk requires VHF
and UHF mobile capability with a Good Mobile, Base Station or Yagi Antenna.
Must have Battery or Generator power only.
