Deadwood & Devil's Thumb

The Deadwood and Devil's Thumb checkpoints are accessible via a graded road that runs south from the Foresthill Divide road.

The Deadwood checkpoint is used by the Ride, but not the Run. The checkpoint has a well with a hand pump, and the water is quite good (and safe) to drink.

The Devil's Thumb checkpoint is located about a mile east on the trail course and is used by the Run as an aid station with Comm support. It is used by the Ride as a water stop only, with occasional Comm support.

The Run also uses the area next to the historic Deadwood cemetary for a final check on the runners before they head down into the El Dorado canyon.

Both Deadwood and Devil's Thumb require VHF and UHF mobile capability with a Good Mobile, Base Station or Yagi Antenna. Must have Battery or Generator power only.
